#What you'll learn
- How the brand and each asset work together, so a brand change re-themes everything while your tweaks survive.
- How to pick a layout, background, logo style, motion and screenshot frame for one asset only.
- How to use badges, extra layers and a nine-slice UI frame from Pixxico.
- How to bring in fonts, palettes and art from other Pixx apps.
- How to read the checks and clear every warning before you export a platform ZIP.
#Before you start
- Work through the Pixxkit beginner guide first: you should know how to set up a brand, add art and export one asset.
- You need your game's name and tagline, some key art, one or two characters and a few screenshots. The sample game Starfall Knight works if you just want to practise.
- Sending fonts, frames and palettes between apps needs a Pixx account with those apps in your plan.
#How-tos
#How to change one asset without touching the brand
Every template starts from your brand. Anything you change on an asset is stored as a tweak on top, so changing the brand later still re-themes that asset.
- Open a template from Templates.
- In This asset on the right, change Background, Logo style or Motion. Each list starts with the brand's choice, for example Brand (gradient).
- Drag, nudge or resize layers on the canvas as you like.
- To go back to the brand's version of this asset, click Reset asset. To clear every tweak on a whole platform, use Reset platform to brand under the template list.
#How to choose a layout
- Open a template and use Layout in the bar above the canvas.
- Pick one of the layouts: for example Key art + logo, Logo left, hero right, Character spotlight, Split panel, Screenshot grid, Logo only, Banner strip, Poster, Announcement, Captioned screenshot or Background art only.
- Each layout adapts to the asset's shape (wide, tall or square), so the same layout looks right on a Steam capsule and an Instagram story.
- Check Checks on the right after switching: some layouts leave no room for the logo, and Steam asks for it on most capsules.
#How to frame a screenshot
- Add screenshots in Brand → Art → Screenshots.
- Open a template that uses screenshots, for example a captioned screenshot or a screenshot grid.
- In This asset, set Frame to Pixel border, TV, Handheld, Phone, Window or Photo.
- On a single-screenshot layout, use Screenshot (1 to 6) to choose which one it shows.
#How to add a badge with its own style
- In Layers, click + Add layer and choose Badge.
- With the badge selected, type its text in Selected and pick a shape: pill, ribbon, burst, tag or seal.
- Set its Colour and Opacity, then drag it into place.
- For the brand-wide badge text (for example WISHLIST NOW), edit Badge text under Brand → Game instead.
#How to use a UI frame from Pixxico
A UI frame is a nine-slice panel: its corners stay sharp at any size.
- Make a frame in Pixxico and send it to Pixxkit as a UI frame, or save it to your library.
- In Pixxkit, open Brand and find UI frame. Click Frame from library and pick it.
- Panels in layouts such as Split panel and Captioned screenshot now use the frame.
- A new badge shape, frame, appears in Selected for badges. It wraps the badge text in your frame.
- To go back to flat panels, choose None (flat panels) in the same list.
#How to use your own pixel font
- Make a font in Pixxypo and send it to Pixxkit, or save it to your library.
- In Brand → Logo, click Font from library. The font becomes your title font and is saved inside your kit.
- To use it for one text layer only, select the layer and pick it from Layer font in Selected.
#How to start from a palette
- In Brand → Colours, click Load a palette… for a classic palette, or Use a palette from your Pixx library for one you made in Pixxulo.
- Pixxkit assigns the roles for you: darkest as background, lightest as text, the most saturated colours as accents.
- Change any role with its dropdown under Roles, and watch the contrast note underneath.
#Workflows
#A Steam page in one sitting
- Set up the brand: name, tagline, colours, logo style, key art, a character and at least four screenshots.
- Click Checklist and open Steam. Work down the list, opening each template from its row.
- For each asset, read Checks and fix what it names (a logo that's too small, text crossing the safe area).
- Click Export, open Platform ZIP, choose Steam and Download ZIP. Every file is named after your game, template and size.
#A teaser for social media
- Animate a character in Pixxani or Pixxivi and Send to App → Pixxkit as frames.
- Open Templates → Social media → Instagram story, set Motion to Logo shine or Logo bounce, and press Space to preview.
- Export → Animated: choose 12–24 frames, a delay around 100 ms, and GIF or APNG.
#Launch-day kit with a team in Flow
- In Flow, use the Launch kit template: art → Pixxkit.
- Assign the art step to your artist. When they Send result to Flow, open the Pixxkit step and the art arrives already loaded.
- Build the platform ZIPs, then send the result back to Flow and mark the step done.
#Tips and shortcuts
- Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z (or Ctrl+Y) undo and redo. Ctrl+S opens Export. Ctrl+O adds art.
- Arrow keys nudge the selected layer by one pixel unit; hold Shift for four. + and - resize it in whole steps.
- Delete hides a template layer or removes an extra one. Escape clears the selection.
- Space plays the animated version. Double-click the canvas to fit it.
- Move the Focus sliders on your key art once: every crop on every template follows it.
- The safe-area button shows where store and app buttons cover your picture. Text groups are kept inside it together.
#Troubleshooting
- Checks says "Steam asks for the game logo on this capsule." Unhide the logo in Layers, or pick a layout that has one.
- Checks says a text "is only N px tall where this asset is usually shown". Store lists show assets small. Make the text bigger or remove it from that asset.
- "This store does not accept transparency." The asset has transparent areas. Show the Background layer or pick a background style.
- "This asset must be a transparent PNG." Some assets (like a transparent logo) need transparency. Hide the background layer.
- My tweak disappeared after changing the brand. Tweaks survive brand changes, but Reset asset and Reset platform to brand remove them. Use Ctrl+Z to bring them back.
- The frame badge shape is missing. It only appears when a UI frame is set under Brand → UI frame.
