#What you'll learn
- How a Pixxune song is built from channels, patterns and an order list, and how to rearrange one.
- How to steer the generator with key, scale, tempo, length and seed, and keep the parts you like.
- How to build instruments with envelopes and per-tick sequences, and how to use samples.
- How to balance a mix and keep the loop seamless.
- How to export intensity stems and stingers for a game.
#Before you start
- Read the Pixxune beginner guide first: you should be able to generate a track, enter notes and export a WAV.
- Headphones help: small changes to reverb and echo are easy to miss on laptop speakers.
- Use a computer or tablet for the tracker. On a phone, the piano roll is the easier editor.
#How-tos
#How to steer the generator
- In Generate, pick a Mood: for example Exploration, Battle, Boss, Town, Dungeon, Spooky, Victory, Title theme, Credits, Shop or Calm / ambient.
- Override what the mood would choose: Key, Scale, Tempo and Length. Leave a field on Auto (mood) to let the mood decide.
- Type a Seed to get a repeatable result. The same settings and seed always write the same song.
- Click ♪ Generate a track. To keep the tempo, key and chords but get a new melody, click 🎲 Variation.
- The result is a normal song: every note can be edited in the Tracker or Piano roll.
#How to rearrange the song
- In Song on the left, the Order list shows which pattern plays at each step.
- Click + Row to insert a step, ↑ / ↓ to move it, and the dropdown on a row to choose its pattern.
- Click ⟲ (Loop back to here) on the row where the loop should restart. Rows above it form the intro.
- Under Patterns, Clone a pattern before you change it, so other order rows that use it stay the same.
- Change Rows to make a pattern shorter or longer (up to 128 rows).
#How to add and set up channels
- Open Mixer and use Add a channel: Pulse, Pulse 2, Triangle, Drums, Wave, FM or Ambience. A song can have up to 16 channels.
- Rename it with Channel name and set its default instrument.
- Use M (mute) and S (solo) to hear one part on its own while you edit.
- Remove a channel with its remove button. Pixxune keeps at least one.
#How to build an instrument with sequences
- Pick the instrument under Instrument in the right panel.
- Choose the wave, then set Duty (pulse width), Gain and the Envelope: Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release.
- Open Sequences (per tick) and type space-separated values in one or more rows:
- Volume 0–15 for plucks and swells, for example 15 12 10 8.
- Duty 0–3 for the classic pulse-width wobble (0 = 12.5 %, 3 = 75 %).
- Arpeggio (semitones) for fast chords from a single note, for example 0 4 7.
- Pitch (1/16 semitones) for drops and zaps, for example 0 -64 -128.
- Set Loop at to the step the sequences repeat from, or -1 to hold the last value. Click ▶ Preview after each change.
- For FM, also try FM ratio, FM depth and FM decay. For Noise, Short (metallic) noise gives a hi-hat or tin sound.
#How to mix and set the loudness
- In Mixer, set each channel's Volume, Pan, Reverb and Echo send.
- In Master, set Reverb level, Reverb size, Echo level, Echo feedback and Echo time (for example 1/8 of a beat).
- Tick Normalise loudness and choose a Target, so every track you make plays at a similar loudness in your game.
- Keep Limiter on, with its Ceiling just under full scale, to avoid clipping.
- Click Check the loop seam. If it reports a jump, shorten long echo feedback or reverb on the loop's last notes.
#How to add an ambience bed
- In Generate, set Ambience to a bed (wind, rain, cave drips, fire crackle, magic hum, bubbles, machinery or town murmur), or leave Auto (biome weather) when you score a biome.
- Generate. The bed plays on its own Ambience channel.
- Turn it down in Mixer, or mute it and export it as its own stem.
#How to make stingers
- In Generate, find Stingers (one-shots).
- Click one: victory, level up, item get, secret found, game over or danger. It is written in the current key and plays once.
- Export it as a WAV like any song. Stingers don't loop.
#Workflows
#From biome to finished level music
- Build a level in Pixxori or a scene in Pixxevi and note its biome.
- In Pixxune, Or score a biome → pick the same biome, tick Intensity layers, generate.
- Tag channels Calm, Alert or Combat with Layer in Mixer.
- Export → Calm / alert / combat for three synced stems, and a WAV of the full mix for menus.
#Sound effects that match the music
- Make a hit or pickup sound in Pixxibu and Send to App → Pixxune.
- It arrives as a sampled instrument. Use it in a percussion pattern so the music and effects share a texture.
- Send the finished track back to Pixxibu or your library; it carries its loop points and tempo.
#A music step in a team Flow
- In Flow, add Pixxune after your level design step and assign it to your composer.
- The composer opens the step, generates or writes the track, and Send result to Flow sends the WAV with its loop points.
- The next step (for example Pixxizi) opens with the track already loaded.
#Tips and shortcuts
- Space plays or stops; Shift+Space loops only the current pattern.
- Shift + arrow keys select a block; Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V copy, cut and paste; Ctrl+↑ / Ctrl+↓ transpose a semitone (with Shift, an octave).
- Tab jumps to the next channel; Page Up / Page Down jump through the pattern; Delete clears and moves down.
- Follow keeps the tracker on the playing row; turn it off to edit one part while the song plays.
- Swing delays off-beat rows for a shuffled feel. Speed sets ticks per row, which also changes how fast effects and sequences run.
- Step sets how many rows the cursor moves after each note: 2 for eighth notes on a 16-row bar.
- Every tracker keystroke is one undo step; slider changes within about half a second merge into one.
#Troubleshooting
- A cloned pattern changed somewhere else too. The order row still points to the original. Pick the clone in that row's dropdown.
- An instrument sounds the same after editing sequences. Sequences run per tick: with a high Speed, short sequences finish quickly. Lower Speed or lengthen the sequence.
- The mix gets quieter when I add a channel. Normalise loudness keeps the overall level at the target. Lower other channels instead of raising the new one.
- The ambience channel drowns the melody. Lower its Volume in Mixer; beds are meant to sit under the music.
- Variation changed my chords. It keeps tempo, key and chord progression but rewrites melody and parts. If you edited by hand, save a copy first (Save song (.json)).
